Introducing our next solo exhibition, A Continuing Use of Discomfort, featuring the captivating larger than life works by Hilary Rochow.
“My work is a product of resiliency and tenderness. In my drawings, the process of laying down fine ink mark after fine ink mark and the process of carefully observing my references for many hours come together to yield a result that feels alive. In my sculptural work, I explore the discomfort of processing grief through memorialization and effigy. I sculpt my pieces using from-life references that I repeatedly touch as I shape earthenware and porcelain into faithful simulacra of the original limbs or bones. I work under the belief that we are not separate from nature but rather animals in systems of animals.”
Hilary is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based out of San Antonio, Texas. She operates her own gallery Rojo, a personal favorite of ours, in the Southwest Arts District of SA. You can find her website with more images of her work in our bio link.
A Continuing Use of Discomfort will be viewable in The Conroy Gallery between 8/15-9/11. The opening will be Friday August 15th at 6pm, please join us as we open our doors to this beautiful new exhibition.
